Karl Kilbo Edlund MD PhD

Researcher-physician at the University of Gothenburg↗ and Sahlgrenska University Hospital↗

I'm fascinated by how our living spaces — the air, greenspaces, and our residential and working environments — influence disease, recovery, and healthy life. I completed my PhD in environmental and occupational epidemiology, investigating the role of airborne particles in coronary atherosclerosis and chronic kidney disease at the University of Gothenburg in 2025. Currently, I conduct follow-up research projects with funding from the Gothenburg Medical Society.

Policy, advocacy, and representational work within higher education and research has run in parallel with my professional activities for a decade. Currently, my foci include doctoral training and supervision quality, university alliances and the European Universities Initiative, early-career researcher representation, and ecological sustainability, at the European level through the European Council of Doctoral Candidates and Junior Researchers↗.
